Their own description (from YC)

Within (formerly Klarity) is a Company Brain used by OpenAI, DoorDash, ServiceNow, Salesforce, JLL, McKesson for AI Transformation. Our product maps how work actually gets done, structure it, and reallocate it between people and agents.

Discover: Employees log into our web app — nothing to install — share their screen, and work as usual. Within maps and anonymizes every task while sending Signals back to highlight what they do well.

Structure: Within agents consolidate activity across the enterprise into a Company Brain: how work gets done, how decisions are made, how approvals flow, how controls are enforced, when work actually happens.

Improve: Against your business objectives, Within finds the right opportunities for agents, builds those agents, and redesigns the people, process, and rituals around them.

Full teardown

Within (YC Summer 2018): teardown vs XMarts

In one line: Within watches how staff at very big companies really work, builds a "Work Brain" from it, and ranks which jobs to hand to AI [site] [yc]. Threat: 1, because it has the same idea but sells to a different buyer (Fortune 500, through Accenture) [site] [press]. Expect a YC partner to name it anyway, because its YC line uses the words "Company Brain" [yc].

1. Fact file

Item Finding Source
What they say "Transform from Within." YC line: "Company Brain for people and agents to work in harmony." [site] [yc]
Founded, team, funding Founded 2017, YC S18, 128 people. About $90M raised: $18M Series A (Jan 2022), $70M Series B (Jun 2024, led by Nat Friedman and Daniel Gross). Accenture Ventures invested in Sep 2026. [yc] [press]
Founders Andrew Antos (CEO, ex-corporate lawyer who did contract review by hand) and Nischal Nadhamuni (CTO, NLP). What YC likely saw in 2018: a founder who lived the pain plus a strong technical co-founder (inference). [press]
Customers They claim OpenAI, DoorDash, ServiceNow, Stripe, Salesforce, Uber, Intuit, McKesson, JLL, Tyler Technologies. [site]
Price Not public. Job ads: one person covers $3M to $5M ARR across 7 to 10 accounts, so roughly $300k to $700k a year per big account (inference). [jobs]
Path Legal contract review (2018) → finance documents (2020) → finance processes → "Klarity 4.0" agents (Sep 2025) → Within / Work Brain (2026). Same finance buyer the whole way. [press] [blog]

2. Their proposition, reverse engineered

Part What they do
Who buys Finance and operations chiefs at Fortune 500 firms [site]. Private equity operating partners [site]. Accenture resells [press].
The pain Too many AI ideas and no proof which ones pay (DoorDash quote, paraphrased) [site]. The written process is not the real one. Mapping by hand takes months and is stale on delivery [blog].
The promise Prove which changes save the most time, in weeks, then build them [site].
How it works Staff open a web app, share their screen and work as normal [yc]. Also an AI interviewer and uploaded recordings [docs]. Tasks are anonymised. Staff get "Signals" on what they do well [yc].
The output A ranked list of jobs for AI with hours saved. Skill packages (SKILL.md, playbook, checklist). Live context for other AI tools over MCP [site]. Role and process redesign advice [yc].
Proof style Counts of processes mapped and days taken ("4,000+ process variants in 9 days", ServiceNow, they claim). No money result in any case study.
Who sells it Own enterprise sales with forward-deployed consultants [jobs], plus Accenture [press].
Price model Not public [site]. Enterprise contracts of roughly $300k to $700k a year (inference from the job ad's ARR per person) [jobs]. 20 to 30 day onboarding sprints [jobs].
The story "Traditional transformation is dead." [blog] Continuous improvement, not one-off consulting projects. People first, not replacement [blog].

3. Positioning

  • Category they claim: Work Brain / Company Brain for AI transformation [site] [yc].
  • Category a YC partner would put them in: process discovery for enterprises, with an agent upsell (inference).
  • What they want to be known for: the context layer every enterprise needs before AI agents can work.
  • Where they sit on the map: L1 3, L2 1, L3 1. Buyer: enterprise, business.

4. Three layers vs ours

Layer Them Us (Marton's logs show)
L1 Company brain 3. The Work Brain on a living context graph is the core product. Learns by watching screens. [site] A vault of about 1,400 pages, 112 call transcripts and about 8,700 customer quotes, searchable by meaning. Learns from calls and checked work.
L2 Agent orchestration 1. Advisor recommends skills and writes skill files. No public claim of running a team of agents with approvals and handovers. [site] About 5,600 jobs run by agents from three makers, each checked by a different AI, then automatic tests.
L3 Execution and learning 1. Building and running the work goes to the customer or Accenture. Results count mapping, not outcomes. [site] [press] Every failure gets a record and an automatic check (about 160). Offer feedback lines fell from 44 to 18 as rules were added. Only about 15% of jobs reached the main code, and merges were unreliable in October.

5. Same and different

Topic Same or different Them Us
Core belief Same Agents fail without the real context of the work [press]. Same (brief).
Output files Same SKILL.md packages and MCP context [site]. Marton's logs show skills and the vault served through MCP.
Keep improving Same Continuous improvement, not projects [blog]. Marton's logs show weekly improvement loops.
Buyer Different Fortune 500 finance and ops [site]. Target: SMEs and scale-ups (brief). No customer yet.
How it learns Different Watches screens (passive) [yc]. Marton's logs show rules added from failures and feedback.
Where it stops Different Maps and recommends [site]. Marton's logs show agents do and check the work, on his own business only.
Proof Different Processes mapped, days taken [site]. No customer number yet.
Delivery Different Software plus a big consultancy [press]. The system plus the two founders.
Speed and price Different 20 to 30 day sprints [jobs]; six-figure contracts (inference) [jobs]. Not set yet.

6. Wedge overlap

Wedge Fit Why
W3 Company memory from every call adjacent Both build company memory. They watch screens at big firms [yc]; W3 learns from calls at services firms (brief).
W8 The other 90% of an AI skill adjacent They generate skill files from observed work and call the graph "living" [site]. No public claim of skill upkeep from real use (UNVERIFIED that none exists).

7. Whitespace (where they stop)

  • Layer gap: they map and recommend; the work is done by someone else [site] [press]. To own it we need one customer workflow run by our agents for 4+ weeks.
  • Buyer gap: no product or case study for firms under about 1,000 people (inference from customers and price) [site]. To own it we need SME or scale-up buyers saying they have the pain.
  • Number gap: no money result in public case studies [site]. To own it we need one before/after number a finance person would sign.
  • Price gap: six-figure contracts (inference) and consultants [jobs]. To own it we need a price a 50-person firm can pay, tied to the result.
  • Speed gap: 20 to 30 days to first value [jobs]. To own it we need first value in under 14 days.

8. For the YC application

  • Proven today: Marton's logs show his system already runs agents that do and check work: about 5,600 jobs, each checked by a different AI, with about 160 failure records that each added an automatic check. Within's public results count processes mapped, not work done [site].
  • Draft answer to "how are you different from Within?": DRAFT. "Within maps how big companies work. Our system already runs agents that do the work and check it, every day, on our own business." Founders say it their own way.
  • Future claim (needs proof): "We do the work for smaller firms and own one number." Needs one customer workflow run by our agents for 4+ weeks, with a before/after number.
  • What we understand that they don't: a company brain learns faster from checked results than from watching screens. needs proof on a customer; Marton's logs show it on his own work (offer feedback lines fell from 44 to 18 as rules were added).
  • Copyability (M3): medium. They already generate skills and run light agents [site], so the tech is within reach. Going to small firms would fight their enterprise sales model and the Accenture channel [jobs] [press] (inference). Not hard, so M3 can not score above 3 against Within alone.
  • Why now (M4): None found in this teardown. Do not use "agents can now do the work": that is general AI progress.
  • Do not claim: "we do the work and own the number" (no customer run yet). "Company brain" as our headline (their YC line uses it).

9. Ideas worth taking

  1. Tell staff what they do well while you learn from them [yc]. It makes capture feel like help.
  2. Hand back a ranked list with hours on each line. Easy for a buyer to act on.
  3. Proof as a count and a time. Use the same shape once we have a real number.

10. Unknowns

  • Whether they sell in the UK or Europe. Look at their careers and customer pages for UK offices.
  • Real prices. Ask a buyer who has seen a quote.
  • Whether Companion stays installed after onboarding (continuous) or is used in sprints only.
